Berlin Wall

Built in 1961 by the East German government, it divided

Western-controlled West Berlin from Russian-controlled East Berlin and was built to stop the fleeing of East Germans to West Germany, because 2.7 East Germans left between 1949 and 1961. It was 10 feet tall with barbed wire at the top. It fell on November 9, 1989, symbolizing the final fall of communism and a free, united Germany.
