What: his Histories has wide geographical scope, investigative approach to evidence, good story, and offered analysis to source of conflict in Persian Wars (usually related to the gods)

When: Golden Age Greece; 485-425 B.C.E.

Where: originally from Halicarnassus

Significance: first historian, established Western civilizations tradition of history wiriting; focused on human causes of history. Used famous historical figures that could never have met to illustrate points. Includes myth and divine entities.
