S.U. response to NATO, Marshall Plan, and growing U.S. involvement in European was Warsaw Pact (1955). It set up joint command in Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and East Germany and guaranteed continued S.U. troop presence. It ended in 1991.
