eugenics

eugenics-

Who- nazis, Nietzsche, darwin, Levi’s novel

What - The belief that information about heredity can be used to improve the human race by controlled selective breeding. Derived from Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest. The Nazis used false scientific arguments to discourage procreation by members who they considered were 'unfit' to live in society, either physically, mentally or socially. forced sterilizations of those considered unfit.

When - late 1800s, early 1900s

Why- in Nietzsche he believes that the noble should win out which gave the ideas to the nazis. This is mentioned in levi’s novel. The idea was first brought up by darwin with his survival of the fittest, even though he did not coin that phrase. Also like in war with the newts when the newt lost his vision so they ate him and the « arian newts ». Nietzsche’s ideas came from the need to breed a superman.
