imperialism

Imperialism-

Who- in heart of darkness it is the belgians

What - The practice of one country extending its control over the territory, political system, or economic life of another country. But its taproot is to finance capitalism---it feeds the branches of militarism (protection of distant citizens calls for intervention), the drive for new investment-spaces, chauvinism, outlet for population (leading to distant citizens). Imperialism also deprived people of their homes and crops with the destruction of land. Now with this type of imperialism, there are multiple competing empires. There were 300 million more subjects in other countries than actual population in Britain. JA Hobson said that imperialism was indefinite and that modern imperialism is fueled by capitalism.

When – heart of darkness was published in 1899

Where - the congo... other places too but this one counts.

Why- mentioned in heart of darkness... main theme too. They wanted to enlighten the savages but maybe they couldnt because they were blind themselves. The european idea about africa was that whatever you do to africa is ok because africa is evil. The ship firing at the continent is an example of the absurdity of colonialism. Also, the closer you get into the heart of darkness, the more stripped from civilisation you get.
